Kantha is one of the unique traditional arts of India. The elegant kantha quilt is handcrafted by the women from rural areas of Rajasthan. Hand stitching throughout the quilts creates the KANTHA design. Kantha stitching is a loose hand stitch that is not generally knotted at each end, this may result in a few loose ends poking out throughout the quilt.

All our Kantha Quilts and Mini Kanthas are hand Kantha stitched and may vary slightly in design to each other. All fabrics are traditionally hand block printed which means designs and colours may also vary slightly from pictures. In addition, we have solid kantha Quilts in different colours and stitching pattern.

Kantha stitching is also used to make quilts. Women in India typically use old saris and cloth and layer them with kantha stitch to make a light blanket, throw or bedspread, especially for tradition. Kantha is very popular with tourists and is similar to the decorative running stitch of Japanese sashiko quilting. Kantha originated from the way in which Bengali housewives mended old clothes by taking out a strand of thread from the colorful border of their saris and making simple designs with them.
